Paris

…[on]the banks of the River Seine in Paris, France…no one complains about Paris.

Our walking continued as we left the river to enter the Jardin des Tuileries. The soft, gentle dust of French culture enveloped us. There was no hint of any forced movement in these gardens, no expectation but actual still joy. This real and joyous release to just sit and watch people overwhelmed me. One could sit in lovely parks anywhere in the world but in Paris you also could feel you were consenting to a French fact. One that proclaims this simple, free, individual enjoyment was part of a patented commitment to life that was neither to be sacrificed nor to change…

…in this city, people had a right to just be, to embrace peace, to relax and to enjoy being alive. On behalf of humanity, they would fight to preserve it, to prove that it can continue and there was another way to function in our modern world, which was as old and as viable as the need to work.

…continued into and out of the city’s most famous museum, the Louvre. Then we made our deliberately prolonged way up to Notre Dame Cathedral by crossing and re-crossing the bridges over the Seine – Pont du Carrousel to Pont Neuf to Pont au Change through Ile de la Cité across one more time at Pont au Double, dallying back and forth just to be immersed into the Parisian ground.
