Ready for Your Next Great Travel Adventure?
To help get you started, and to set the scene, below are descriptions from my books of some of the world’s most amazing destinations. These clips are to help you learn about the location, prep for your travels and drive up your excitement about a specific place.
Chiang Mai
Every day at dusk – every day – the Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai, Thailand transforms an ordinary street of shops and restaurants into a thriving outdoor market selling…well, pretty much everything.
The vendors bring their stalls, set up their wares, and sell to tourists and locals, until midnight. The stall locations are established. The work is relentless. For a visitor, the experience is delightful. The air is filled with music and the smells of street food. You can eat the street food in Thailand, it’s delicious and actually should not be missed, while you enjoy the mile long vision of commerce at work.
For me, the extraordinary nature of the Night Bazaar is its continuous daily existence. The vendors do not take a day off or go on vacation. They might get a relative or friend to run the spot when they need to step away, but otherwise the business is set-up and taken down every day, or no money will be made.
Imagine the scene taking place at homes all over Chiang Mai as dusk approaches. Each vendor gets her stall ready, along with the goods to be sold that day. The goods could come from anywhere. The Bazaar has finished products, local art, clothing…everything. Along with the metal stall, the vendors need lights, maybe a fan and even a television for their own entertainment. Of course, they have their phones too. Picture them walking or driving to Thanon Chang Khlan (Chang Khlan Road) by a pre-determined route they follow every day.
– Describing Chiang Mai, Thailand in Life Dream: 7 Universal Moves to Get the Life You Really Want through Entrepreneurship by Case Lane
Place: Ratcha AnachakThai, Kingdom of Thailand in southeast Asia
Visited: Four times (at least)
Most Recent Visit: TBD
Original sites: Overwhelming: from Buddha to beaches the list is long and alluring.
Familiarity: Medium
English usage: Scattered
Surprise: The number of developed tourist areas provides a dynamic selection of potential destinations.
For Rising Entrepreneurs Expanding to Global Markets: The Thai market is a bit deceptive. Because of the extensive tourism industry, one has the impression the locals are western-sensitized and English speakers. But reality for most Thais is more difficult. People are challenged to earn a sustainable living, and despite high-tech, sometimes futuristic sites in Bangkok, you still see daily life on the Chao Phraya River as it has little changed for decades.
Certainly explore Thailand if you have a connection here, but do not be surprised if you have to wait longer to participate fully in this corner of the global economy.
